Taking Control: How to Host FTB Servers on Your Computer

11th Dec 2022

Ftb Server

FTB (Feed The Beast) is a popular modpack collection for Minecraft that offers a wealth of new gameplay experiences and challenges. While playing on existing FTB servers can be a lot of fun, some players may prefer to take control and host their own FTB server on their computer. By doing so, you can create a personalized multiplayer environment, invite friends to join, and explore the vast possibilities offered by FTB. In this article, we will guide you through the process of hosting FTB servers on your computer, empowering you to take control of your Minecraft experience.

  1. Choose the FTB Modpack:

The first step in hosting an FTB server is selecting the modpack you want to use. FTB offers a variety of modpacks, each with its own set of mods and gameplay enhancements. Visit the FTB website or launcher to explore the available options and choose the modpack that suits your preferences.

  2. Prepare Your Computer:

Before setting up the FTB server, ensure that your computer meets the necessary requirements. Running a Minecraft server, especially with mods, can be resource-intensive. Make sure you have a capable computer with sufficient processing power, RAM, and storage space to handle the server's demands.

  3. Download the FTB Server Files:

Once you have chosen the modpack, visit the FTB website or launcher to download the server files for that specific modpack. The server files are typically provided as a compressed archive (ZIP or JAR file).

  4. Create a Dedicated Server Folder:

Create a dedicated folder on your computer to serve as the server's home directory. This folder will contain all the necessary files for running the server. Choose a location that is easily accessible and has sufficient storage space.

  5. Extract the Server Files:

Extract the downloaded server files into the dedicated server folder you created. This will unpack the necessary files for running the FTB server.

  6. Configure the Server:

Open the server folder and locate the server.properties file. This file contains various settings and configurations for your FTB server. Customize the settings according to your preferences, such as server name, maximum player count, and difficulty level.

  7. Install Java:

Ensure that you have Java installed on your computer. Minecraft servers require Java to run. Visit the official Java website and download the latest version of Java compatible with your operating system.

  8. Start the Server:

To start the FTB server, double-click the server launch file (e.g., FTBServer.jar) or run it through the command line using the appropriate command. This will initiate the server startup process.

  9. Configure Firewall and Port Forwarding:

If you are hosting the server on your home network, configure your firewall settings to allow incoming connections to the server. Additionally, if you want to make your server accessible to players outside your local network, you may need to set up port forwarding on your router to redirect incoming connections to your computer's IP address.

  10. Share Server IP and Connect:

Once the server is up and running, share the server IP address with your friends or community members so they can connect to your FTB server. Players can join your server by entering the server IP in their Minecraft launcher.

  11. Customize and Administer the Server:

As the server host, you have administrative privileges and control over the server. Familiarize yourself with server administration commands and plugins/mods that provide additional features and control. Customize the server rules, manage player permissions, and create an enjoyable and fair gameplay environment for everyone.
